EdTech ecosystem on Kubernetes
Metalearn
A learning platform built from open-source building blocks, with a single identity layer and fully owned infrastructure.
The problem
Learning platforms are silos: data centralised at a vendor, supplier lock-in, opaque operation. Metalearn starts from a different idea: assemble free software into one coherent ecosystem that the institution keeps control of.
What I built
- An architecture bringing together Workadventure, Nextcloud and Matrix
- A unified SSO with Keycloak (OpenID Connect): one account for the whole ecosystem
- Custom APIs in PHP and Node.js to connect the building blocks
- GitLab CI pipelines and multi-stage Docker images
- Kubernetes deployments with Helm, on heterogeneous nodes
My role
CTO of the project and sole operator of the platform: architecture, development, CI/CD, cluster operations, monitoring and incident handling.
What it proves
- Running a multi-service Kubernetes cluster alone, under real conditions
- Industrialising: every deployment is reproducible and versioned
- Integrating existing free software rather than rewriting everything
